Irene Haggerton White

Irene Haggerton White, age 70, died Saturday, January 27, 2007

at Covenant Health & Rehab in Picayune following a lengthy illness.

 

The funeral service will be Friday, February 2, 2007 at Picayune Funeral Home

Chapel with Bro. Gary Killen officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be

the deacons of Goodyear Baptist Church.

 

Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Picayune, MS.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, 2007, from 6-9 PM

at Picayune Funeral Home.

 

Irene was born in Medina, Texas August 29, 1936, the daughter of the

late Ruth Dale Dalton and the late Earl Haggerton.

 

She graduated from high school in Uvalde, TX in 1954

where she played basketball.

 

On April 19, 1960, Irene married Alvie F. "Pete" White in San Antonio, TX. 

 

Following his return from military service in August, 1962, they

moved to Oxford, MS and she was employed by the University of Mississippi in

the registrar's office.  The Whites moved to Picayune in 1968.  Irene worked as a

compositor at the NASA Test Facility, the John C. Stennis Space Center.

 She retired in 2001 after 29 years of employment.

 

She was a loving and faithful wife, loyal friend, and devoted Christian.

 

Irene was an active member of the Goodyear Baptist Church for 30 years.

During that time she was the teacher of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. 

Her favorite scripture verse was Philippians 4:13.

 

She is survived by:

her husband, Pete White;

two brothers, Wesley (Jolyn) Haggerton of Camp Wood, Texas

and Hugh (Peggy) Dalton of Uvalde, Texas.

She was also blessed with many loving nieces and nephews

and countless friends.
