Turner Carter McNeese

December 12, 1920 – March 14, 2007

 

Lt. Col. Turner Carter McNeese, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at his residence in Carriere, MS.

 

The memorial funeral service will be Saturday, March 17th at 11:00 AM

at First Baptist Church of Picayune with Dr. Keith Warden officiating,

assisted by Rev. Noel Cooper.  

 

Visitation will be Saturday, March 17th from 10-11 AM at First Baptist Church. 

 

Burial will be at Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Lamar County, MS.

 

Carter was born in Folsom, LA and was raised in Hattiesburg and Columbia, Mississippi.  He graduated from Columbia High School in 1939 and attended Pearl River Community College for 2 years. 

 

In 1940 he joined the Army and served in World War II in the Rainbow Division in Europe.  He also served in the Korean War and was assigned to Vietnam in 1957-1958 as a member of the advisory group.  He retired in 1960 as a Lt. Col. with 20 years service. After this retirement he worked for Civil Service and eventually retired from NASA in 1980.

 

Carter was a life member of National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Alan B. Carter Post of Hattiesburg and Retired Officers Association.  He was a Christian and a

member of First Baptist Church of Picayune.

 

He is survived by:

 

his wife of sixty-five years, Sarah N. Cooper McNeese of Carriere;

 

two sons, John C. McNeese of New Orleans, LA and

Robert T. McNeese of Baton Rouge, LA;

 

one daughter, Charlotte M. Johnston of Picayune;

 

 three grandchildren, Jill J. Lee,

Jaime J. Mitchell, and

 Timm C. McNeese; and

 

four great-grandchildren, Braxton R. Lee, 

Peyton R. Lee,

Trenton R. Lee and

Macie J. Lee.
